It does in a roundabout sort of way.
The adverts are put on the board by the forum owners, 'Forumer' to finance the 'free' forum. If you don't want ads then you have to pay for the forum.
So at the vey least, it's not costing the club.

I really wish I could remove them. I agree they are EXTREMELY ANNOYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If everyone wants to pay to have the forum hosted by ourselves then it is something that I can investigate. But as Deano states, this is free so we have to put up with it.

I understand that it pays for the site, but some of the adverts " You are a winner".... coupled with the noise and flashing banners, ( and there all a con)
it's not what I want, when I visit the site... sad.gif

Still that's me, maybe I'm just easily annoyed ( Grumpy old man) unsure.gif

Most don't bother me (we have the same on our forum), but I find the scam-like 'YOU'RE A WINNER' with matching chimes an advert too far.

Karl Reilly- 02-08-2008
All,

I agree entirely. Most of the 'static' banners aren't too bad as they are easily ignored. The rubbish we have had to put up with this week is extremely annoying.

We will monitor what types of advert we have over the coming weeks and discuss at the next committe meeting.

In the meantime, there is a link right at the bottom of the page to the owners of the site - let them know how annoying the flashing con-win type adverts are. rolleyes.gif

On a slightly different subject: I think your forum has had an update guys, as your club banner has been replaced with the Invision logo. Usually a good indication of a software upgrade.

If these adverts are still annoying anyone, I have a solution.

Please email me for details elrc@avo.org.uk

Thanks
Mark

I asked very nicely to have the ads changed and I notice one of forumer's support guys is registered on our site. Hopefully we shall be back to the normal google ones soon.

Phil R, hope you are well. Im on the hunt again for some card or boarding for the craft event at easter, for the kids to lean on. If this is something you could help me with again this year it would be great....

All,

I have also requested the ads be put back to the Google Ads we had before. (We have to have something or it will cost the Club)

I asked for this a few days ago and as of yesterday the guy from Forumer joined our forum to check it out. They ensure that there is no unsuitable content prior to putting back the Google Ads.

Hopefully in the next day or so the annoying banners will disappear. (I would also think they could be dangerous to those with epileptic tendancies)

If the banners do not get removed by the Committee meeting next week, then I have a recommendation to put to the meeting for a costed alternative.

Please bear with me. I am as annoyed as you are!!!

Ralph

Yes Ralph, we have the same thoughts mate.

Ralph- 02-18-2008
I never thought I would say this but...

Yippee!!!

Google ads are back

No more annoying bleeping and flashing.

Karl Reilly- 02-18-2008
Well done! And thank you.

Still on the agenda for Saturday's committee though.
