huh.gif has any body any experience of a L.W.B series vehicle ,V 8 petrol engined? No we are not thinking of buying one,but a new advert in L.R.M this month has a company in Scotland offering 2 (at the moment ) such vehicles for hire ,to tour the Scottish Highlands I wonder at the comfort and economy (I know ,I know ,we are talking series here!) but the price etc seems good,I just wonderwhether my sylph like frame, and Mega Margarets gargantuan figure will be comfortable for a week.(don't worry she doesn't read the forum,so unless someone bubbles me I'm quite safe) smile.gif smile.gif Fred G

blink.gif blink.gif Sorry,I reallymust read the post before I stick it on the Forum I should have described the vehicle as a 4 berth Landrover based Dormobile conversion ,with a V8 engine.(no Kevin, you and Kim can't come along!!Fred G rolleyes.gif

Hi Fred

It sounds as though the Dormobile top half is based on the Stage 1 bottom half. This was a 'Series 4' (almost) in that it had leaf springs, but the V8 and gearbox from a Range Rover and early 110s, so was permanent 4WD.

It's a quirky beast, but still a series Land Rover.

'V8' and 'Land Rover' rarely fearture in the same sentance as 'fuel economy' unless the word 'poor' is included! Fuel economy in the range of 15 - 20 mpg would be about right - unless you let Mega Margaret practice her hill rally driving...

As to comfort, the roof may raise a bit like the old VW camper vans, but it won't be luxury in the 5 star hotel sense. The seats 'fold flat' to form the beds, so sleeping space is ample, but not entirely mattress like.

The off road press used to tell stories of people travelling around various parts of the world in these things, so they can't be that bad. Probably better than a tent though.

It sounds like the basis for quite a good holiday.

Karl.

I promise I won't bubble you Fred..................................... for a fee blink.gif

Sounds like a great adventure holiday, the sort of thing I would like but I know what a V8 does to the gallon ohmy.gif

I used to have a stage one V8, and I used to get 13 - 16 mpg, but they are a lot of fun smile.gif

Mmm!
Not much better than a 2 1/4 pulling a station wagon 109 I suspect! Maybe a bit more grunt tho'? Hope so-its one of my next projects blink.gif Pete ohmy.gif
