I'm looking to replace a battery,  what i have at the moment is a 72ahr .
Not sure what the 72ah means. I'm taking it that it should put out 72 amps per hour.
The battery i have doesn't seem to have much go in it even though it shows as being fully charged.
Would your battery be any better?
I may also be in need of a 3.5 or 3.9 range rover fuel pump as i have a fuel feed problem. would you have one of these items?

72Ahr means that at a discharge rate of 1Amp it should last 72Hrs. defining 'last' is a bit problematic. Your battery is nominally 12V so has it 'lasted' when the terminal voltage deviates from that 12V or deviates by 10% ie drops to 10.8V. For most Land Rover applications the starting current is probably more interesting, (especially if yours is a diesel) sometimes called CCA, cos that's what the colonial rebels call it, Cold Cranking Amps. The two terms aren't necessarily related, ie a higher Ah rating doesn't necessarily mean you'll get better CCA and starting. But I guess a battery with a low AHr rating is unlikely to deliver particularly good CCA.

I'm sure someone who actually knows what they're talking about will be along shortly to put us right. ph34r.gif

....oh and on your fuel feed question I had some issues where my 3.9Efi was cutting out showing symptoms of a fuel feed issue. We found that it was corroded fuel pipe so we replaced the filter on the fuel tank and changed about 6ft of the fuel pipe - so far i've not had a repeat of the issue.

As above ...maybe someone who knows what they are talking about will also help.

Hi Mark and Joe,

Sorry for leaving it late to get back to you. I've been unindated with bits and bobs.
What the c.c.v slave cylinder deciding not play ball at the first gate of the first course on sunday.

I managed to blow through the fuel lines from the tank to the engine, recharged the battery and (Buddah) started first time every time while at home then on sunday it rand down again.

The battery has been on charge for 24 hours and i -*test*-('")ed it with a manual fluid -*test*-('")er which indicates the battery still needs charging so i assume it knackerd.

I drove Buddah for about 5 mins to get the feel of it for the first time at sudbury on sunday then the above happened.

So all that realy happened that day was buddah got a trailer ride to and from the site.

Now i have the slave cylinder off but can't seem to find a replacement. The engine is a 3.9 range rover but im not sure about the gearbox, it has four gears though.

Would you happen to have a slave cylinder?
I could send you a picture through email of the part i have removed to see if they are the same.

It would be nice to find out exactly what gearbox i have for the future.

Help from anybody is always appreciated.

Mike.

Sounds like an LT95 you have there: Vacuum operated difflock? The slave bolts into the bellhousing on the l/h side. Careful with the bolts as it's easy to strip the threads in the bellhousing!

The slave cylinder is still available as are the seals, but at around 12 quid it's hardly worth re-rubbering. Part no. is TKC2786 and is used on both manual boxes (LT95 and LT77) until the change to the R380.

Hello deano,

I will remember the gear box numbers for future use but for now i have ordered a cylinder from island 4x4 in desperation but don't know if its the right part...lol. smile.gif
With most people now days time is of the essence. The job itself does not seem to be a problem obtaining the correct part is another story. mad.gif
What i have noticed looking at pictures on the internet is that some slave cylinder push rods have an extra small pin extention after the ball on one end, this is the type i have.

I will look at the diameter and length of the bore to compaire with what was already on the vehicle.
As i've not had the vehicle long i don't know much about it but suppose i can always learn...

Thanks.

Mike. biggrin.gif

When you install the slave cylinder, make sure that you put the bleed nipple above the oil feed pipe. If you get it the other way around (which is tempting for better access to the bleed nipple), you won't be able to bleed it properly, and will spend hours wondering what on earth is wrong... as another member of the club found out the night before easter a couple of years ago.... smile.gif

Hi James,

Thanks for that. biggrin.gif

I suppose if you thik about it any air in the system will naturaly go to the top of the cylinder, it's something you could overlook when fitting, especialy if your in a hurry to get the job done.

Yes, I don't understand why they don't design them so that you can't fit them the wrong way round.
