I am clerk of the course for the Comp Safari, and am looking for volunteers to marshall the event. There are several roles that need to be filled. If you could help with one It would be much appreciated.

1. Setting out the course markers
2. Collecting in the course markers
3. Recovery team - (At least 5 teams needed) to be positioned around the course with recovery equipment and safety flags. Ideally this would be one vehicle and two people - Contact me for further information at james@Absolutesailing.com
4. Results marshall - Posts results from the timing marshals to the public board at regular intervals.

James, i'll help out. I've done recovery before, but if you want to get together before then and go over the specific rules regarding comp recovery (Flags??), it would be a good idea. Will you be at the Hare on Tuesday??

Karl Reilly- 03-15-2004
ohmy.gif 'Live Recovery' at the comp will only be undertaken if the course dictates it is necessary. Crews must be of three people for this task.

The club will provide equipment (other than vehicle, rope and flashing lights, perhaps obviously) for the crews, and they will be briefed in detail before the event starts.

We will also need general marshals on the comp as well - again the club will provide the necessary flags & radios etc, as well as a briefing before the event.

For the event to run safely, it is important that the marshals and, if required, recovery crews, work together with the other event officials. If you've done this before and fancy having a go, we still want your help! We will ensure that you're not 'out-there' on your own, and will team you up with experienced marshals.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Yes I will be at the pub meet on tuesday, although I have to leave by 10. We can talk over the details then, but it's mostly common sense.

Darn! Actually James, I've just been "informed" i have plans tomorrow night (parent teachers meeting). But i do want to go over the rules before the event.

I am also looking for a volunteer to man the radio in the timing control booth. The role is to receive messages from the marshalls on the course regarding penalties that the drivers have picked up, and pass them on to the timekeepers / scorers. They would also be listening out for safety related information and would inform the starter when the course needs to be closed or re opened.
