We have a lane in south Suffolk that we would like to save MPV rights on if at all possible.

Darney Lane is south of Bury St Edmunds between Whepstead and Har-*test*-('").
It has an experimental seasonal TRO in place to monitor usage and condition but now SCC want to do the dirty and change it to permanent without waiting for the results!

We (GLASS and SLROC) really don't want them to do this.

Please read the flyer below and send an objection.
Email or letter (although letters are better as it ties up their resources more).

GLASS
Suffolk Green Lane Appeal
Help save Darney Lane!

Do you live in Suffolk, drive in Suffolk or are you just fed up with
highway authorities discriminating against Green Lane drivers?

If so, here’s your chance to FIGHT BACK!!!

Suffolk County Council have announced their intention to permanently close Darney Lane near Bury St Edmunds. This beautiful Byway which fords a river between the villages of Whepstead and Har-*test*-('") forms part of a small network of legal green lanes in an area already badly hit by NERC. This is an important resource for Green Lane Drivers and Trail Riders from Suffolk and beyond.

Despite recent repair work and the authorities own Rights of Way Officers recommending a compromise proposal (a seasonal restriction on 4x4s during the winter months) the County Council Rights of Way Committee are pushing ahead with plans for a permanent, year round closure. Supporters of the closure plan claim that the repairs have been a failure. This is simply not true.

The real reason for wanting to close the lane appears to be pressure from local NIMBYs on the parish council who simply resent sharing this lovely green lane with the occasional 4x4 driver or Trail Rider! Unfortunately the antis appear to be winning the argument!

The only way to save this lane is for us all to object, now !!!

Don’t worry if you’ve never written to the council before, there’s no magic formula. Just write (or Email) in your own words, stating that you object to the proposed closure of Darney Lane. It doesn’t matter if you don’t live in Suffolk but if you do please point this out. Objections from local people will always carry more weight so please include your name & postal address (even if you Email).

Objections must be received before 30th April.
