I am really interested in buying myself a landrover defender 90, but I am a complete beginner. I would like to participate in greenlaning and tyro events and want to make sure that I have the right set-up.

Can anyone offer any advice on buying a defender.....
1) model / year
2) what to look for on the car when buying. ie damage, hidden problems, etc.
3) rough price guides

Then could anyone offer advice on modifications.....
1) lifting suspension
2) winch bumbers and recovery elements
3) roll cage
4) diff guards
5) rails and protective elements.

Any advice would be helpful.

That's a long list of questions, none of which have a short or straightforward answer.

Your best bet is to come along to a pub meet, or to one of our events and have a chat.

We have a camping / site clearance weekend this weekend, with a driving day on Sunday, or a trial on Saturday & Sunday next weekend. You are welcome along to either or both events.

Contact one of the committee (details on the club website) to get site location details.

Karl is right. There are a number of Defenders in the club. I have a 1996 300TDi SWB and would be happy to chat and show you what to look for or at least from my limited knowledge and experience.

Thats probably the best idea.

I will definately come to your next pub meet, but will have to rain check this weekend as I'm visiting relatives. If I have a clear weekend next week may even mosey over to your sudbury event.
