1994 tdi.............is it a 300 or 200 and how do you tell the difference?

Mark Debenham- 05-29-2008
Could be either Kev, assuming you are just talking about the engine (?) the easiest way to tell is by the colour of the dipstick and oil filler cap, if they're Green it'll be a 200tdi and if they are Yellow it's most likely a 300tdi.

It'll be a 300 then as they are yellow wink.gif

mmm,we got a yellow filler and green dipstick????typical Landrover?! Must be something more telling? blink.gif unsure.gif

sad.gif I know I'm not a dieselly person, but isn't the 300 fitted with a "fly-by-wire" throttle?

That means if it's got a Bowden cable to the injector pump, it's a 200 - I think unsure.gif

I think the early 300tdis weren't fly by wire unless they were auto. I think that was the td5 and beyond that are all fbw!

blink.gif Filler caps are interchangeable, the dipsticks are not if I remember correctly - the 200tdi dipstick tube bends out underneath the inlet manifold about halfway back along the engine and has a round hole/loop to pull the dipstick out,(in Green) the 300tdi dipstick come straight up is towards the front of the engine between the inlet manifold and head and had a 't' piece type handle (in Yellow) - your's will be a 200tdi if it has a green dipstick rolleyes.gif
