I'm just testing the water at the moment.

There is a question mark over the use of Boreham at present which we are trying to resolve. I have a sniff of a potential replacement site or two, but all the alternatives are out of Essex.

So, drawing a theoretical 100mile radius around Boreham provides a number of opportunities that can be investigated further, but I don't want to set it all up, and then have no Essex members attending...

Let me know your comments.

sad.gif on a personal note karl, easter is too early for camping for these old bones,so I would have to be in a position where we could return home each night aswe did last year. sorry to be pooty parper ,its just a pity about boreham. sad.gif sad.gif fred greaves

Hi Karl,

also on a personal note, with no source of transport bar a moped 100 miles is an extremely long way to travel with boreham only 5mins up the road. i thought that this year was a great success and an excellent site therefore if we can use boreham again next year it can be even better.. smile.gif

I understand your transport - 100 miles at 30mph... that's almost the speed of a Series 1!

If we are able to secure the use of Boreham we will be back there. Since that is looking unlikely we are somewhat forced to look for alternatives. Sites of the size and terrain suitable for a large interclub event are few and far between - hence the large radius of the search for a suitable site.

/[Whinge mode on...]

We have 175 registered users on the forum, but only 7 votes about a location for Easter...

Is it because it doesn't matter where it is, or is it because nobody is that bothered?

I really need to know the general opinion of members quite soon because it's going to make a difference as to what we do for Easter!

/[whinge mode off...]

Could I plead with you all to vote, or post your comments here over the next week, at least before the committee meeting in November, so that when we plan what's going to happen, we can understand what most people want.

Thanks
Karl.

Hi Koach,
I'm going to really stick my neck out and say---this is ESSEX LAND ROVER CLUB----therefore our event should be in Essex-there are many more members who should make their feelings known-in one way or another.
Come on folks..let's get this sorted out blink.gif ohmy.gif biggrin.gif Pete rolleyes.gif

Forgive me if this goes wrong, I'm a bit Technophobic.
Firstly to have an Easter event we need a site. Last year we scrapped in at the last moment with the nessesary signatures and the year before was the same. If there is no where local what are we to do? We have a lot of guests wanting to come and join us for Easter and we must be able to offer something good. As Karl said, it has to be the right site or do we just let it all slip and travel further a field as individuals?

Is there no chance of using Bures? This has got to be our best opportunity if Boreham is not available.

It must be large enough for all the events; all we need is to pacify the neighbours and do a deal with the owner.

However I am sure that this has already been investigated.

Tim

Bures would be fantastic to use!

However, there are more than a few hurdles to clear in gaining the use of the site. Given the over-use of it by LRO Magazine, there is naff-all chance of us being able to use it.

Sad but true I'm afraid.

There is an issue of a lack of camping, but being able to offer money to am adjacent landowner should be enough to swing it. However, it's about as likely to happen as me winning the lottery... and I don't buy a ticket.

All leads for potential sites welcomed.

Karl.

Hi Karl
I usually travel 50 to 70 miles to most events so I don't mind a few road miles.
I don't think I would get a campimg permit from the wife so I think 100 miles south
from last years site would be too far for me to travel for one day. I guess I would have to limit myself to a 2 hour drive.(at 55mph) blink.gif

Kevin - you raise some good points... Wildtracks - there were a few grumbles, but a lot of people still attended.

Martin - the site in mind is probably more north than south of Boreham, so work on that pass!

Hi All,

More than happy to travel to anywhere in Europe!! Only issue I can see is getting all of the equipment we borrow to run the event to site, but I guess that means we just have to add a lorry to the list of equipment required or source kit local to the site.

Pete, In reply to your post I think you will find that not everybody checks the forum daily, possibly not even monthly. I am looking today as Paul mentioned it to me yesterday. Can I suggest an email is sent out to everyone requesting that they do login and vote.

Regards

Jim, Sue , Ben and Joe.

Karl Reilly- 11-06-2005
Jim

Good idea. I will see about organising just such an e-mail.

For what it's worth, the site we are thinking about using is regularly used by another club and they will be in a position to help us source some kit more locally and also help with some of the on site arrangements.

We have a committee meeting next week, where this whole issue is a primary agneda item!

Thanks for your input
Karl.
